Description & Roles

Test, service, repair, replace, remove, install and document nearly 300 fire dampers distributed in 11 different office and process facilities, adhering to Ontario Building and Fire codes and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes/standards

  • Complete the City Project Charter
  • Present and obtain senior management approval
  • Develop the statement of requirement for the design consultant fee proposal against an existing Standing Offer Agreement (SOA)
  • Lead contract negotiations for City approval of final agreement
  • Oversee the design development and design review requirements for the draft and final stages of reports, engineering design drawings and specifications documents
  • Review, negotiate and recommend change orders for additional engineering design services
  • Prepare internal City documents to secure project funding and proceed with construction implementation
  • Complete pre-tender documents including coordinating City insurance review, liquidated damages, general and specific terms and conditions, instruction to bidders, and tender form
  • Support public tendering by leading on-site job showing, coordinating answers to bidder questions and reviewing past project submissions
  • Provide project management services during implementation (e.g. meetings, health & safety plan, detailed schedule, budget, documentation)

Challenges

Health risks associated with sewage treatment require critical attention to safety. Acute attention to detail required to ensure accurate tender documents (e.g. varying fire damper material types, sizes, shapes, fire ratings, operating pressures and orientations). Careful coordination to respect MOL – Ministry of Labour requirements in conjunction with other projects
